Use and Maintenance
___________________________________________________________________________

The Regional ITS Architecture can be used as a resource for planning, designing, and implementation of ITS.  There are several sections outlined below that stakeholders may want to consider reviewing when planning or designing a project.

Use of Regional ITS Architecture
___________________________________________________________________________

The Regional ITS Architecture can be used for many different aspects of ITS planning and design. The Regional ITS Architecture identifies regional needs, prioritizes the ITS service packages needed to meet those needs, maps out how each individual ITS service package should be deployed, identifies functional requirements and standards, and recommends agreements that may be needed for ITS operations. In the ITS Deployment Plan, projects are identified that should be considered for deployment in the Austin Region.

One of the key areas that Regional ITS Architectures are often used for is to develop a Systems Engineering Analysis (SEA) for a new project. Some of the key requirements of an SEA have been identified below along with the relevant sections of the Regional ITS Architecture.

Compliance with the Regional ITS Architecture –The ITS service packages included in the Appendices of the Regional ITS Architecture document should be reviewed to determine if a project conforms to the Regional ITS Architecture. Projects that are included in the Regional ITS Deployment Plan will have the applicable ITS service packages already identified. If changes to the Regional ITS Architecture are required, refer to the section below on Maintenance of Regional ITS Architecture.

Roles and Responsibilities of Agencies – Roles and responsibilities of agencies can be found in the Regional ITS Architecture document as well as in the Interactive Architecture under the Ops Concept link by clicking on the applicable Area.

Applicable ITS Standards – Applicable Standards can be found in the Regional ITS Architecture document as well as in the Interactive Architecture under the Standards link.

Maintenance of Regional ITS Architecture
___________________________________________________________________________

Since the Regional ITS Architecture is considered a living document, it may need to be modified periodically to accurately reflect how ITS is being deployed and operated in the Region. To facilitate the documentation of these changes, an Architecture Maintenance Documentation Form has been developed. Any changes to the Regional ITS Architecture should be documented in the form, which can be accessed through the link below.
